Registration is now open for my San Francisco Plein Air Workshop
We are very excited to announce the San Francisco Plein Air Workshop with James Kroner September 24th - 26th. This is a 3 day plein air workshop with a full demo on the first morning, and a chance for students to create 5 cityscape paintings during the course. All experience levels are welcome, beginners are welcome too.
This is a really fun and exciting outdoor painting course in where James will share his process for the cityscape, his thinking behind it, and what has inspired him along the way.
The cityscape painting can sometimes be a very complicated subject, which requires the painter to simplify forms, edit out detail that is not important, and emphasize the main idea of the composition.
Students will learn about the importance of design, edges, drawing with paint, color harmony and the focal point. “Seeing in Paint” is one of the main ideas in this workshop. James demonstrates and talks about how to see as the painter sees, focusing on value relationships and abstract shapes. He always encourages personal expression to be at the forefront.
San Francisco in the fall is a beautiful time of year and a chance for us to enjoy great weather and the beautiful colors of the city. We’ll have a great time painting outdoors together in the lovely parks of San Francisco. Our painting locations provide shade and restrooms within the park, the perfect locations to be comfortable and quiet with incredible views of the city.
Throughout his career, James has put much of his creative focus on cityscape scenes and urban environments. This workshop will provide students with a special insight into the subject and environment of the cityscape, and the steps to compose a city scene. With three incredible painting locations - Alta Plaza Park, Lafayette Park, and Aquatic Park Pier, students will paint a variety of cityscape subjects in some of James’s favorite plein air locations. The views provide street scenes, city scenes with the bay in the background, and harbor scenes with boats in the marina.
James will share his knowledge and experience both on a group level and individual instruction fitted to each students experience level - which helps the student to see and understand visually.
Our workshop course can accommodate up to 12 painting participants. Students will meet at 8:30 each morning at our painting location for a chance to paint in the morning light and again in the afternoon/evening light.
