We are thrilled to announce James Kroner’s Germany Plein Air Workshop: Berchtesgaden and the Romantic Road August 12th - 24th 2024.

After last year’s fun and successful Germany workshop focused on Bavaria and the Alps, we are heading to many new locations this year! We’ll be visiting and painting daily, some of the most iconic Bavarian views and landmarks. Starting off in Berchtesgaden, our home base for the first half and then heading to Dinkelsbühl and the Romantic Road for the second half. Our plein air locations include Konigsee Lake with it’s swooping diagonals of the alps, Malerwinkl which is so breathtaking its actually called “painters corner”, medieval towns, half timbered buildings, Rococo churches, castles, farmlands and gorgeous Bavarian landscapes await us.

At the end of the first week we’ll head into Austria for a day trip to plein air in Salzburg for a day!

The second week we will be lodging in Dinkelsbühl, a walled city surrounded by a moat with 4 gated entrances, 16 towers and a fortress from the 10th century. From there we will take day trips to paint some more nearby towns and beautiful rural scenes. We’ll cap off the workshop with a home cooked German meal and entertainment just like we did last year with an entire village!

This workshop includes all lodging, all transportation including to and from the airport, a welcome dinner, and a farewell dinner, daily breakfast and 8 full days of plein air painting instruction.

Daily during the workshop James will provide one-on-one instruction and do several demos throughout the course showing you how he would handle the scene. James will guide students in how to select for a strong composition, identify problems and edit key issues during the painting process. James gives a description of how he sets up his palette, achieve color harmony, and where his focus is drawn and how to compose the many elements of a scene. James will work with each artist individually according to their experience level. This workshop is meant to help you push forward on your painting journey. Artists complete anywhere from 12-16 works on average during the two week duration. All skill levels are welcome, friend or family also welcome. We look forward to sharing in this curated experience with you!
